Art History Outings at the VMFA: Renaissance and Age of Exploration

We’ll be looking mainly at paintings this month and noticing the shift from mostly religious subjects to portraiture, landscapes and still life paintings. Once again I’ve prepared a little scavenger hunt as well as a drawing prompt.

Perspective is one of the big changes that we will notice as well as more realistic portrayal of the human form (more like what we saw in Greek and Roman sculpture) and more depictions of ordinary life (people ice skating, washing clothes, and playing games).
