Psalms and Psalmody:Singing the Psalms

As I reflected on this project of Praying the Psalms I realized that one of the reasons that I love the Psalms and find them a good guide for prayer is that they are extremely familiar to me. Part of that familiarity is due to reading them over and over again, as part of the Daily Office, but actually the greater part of familiarity and the reason Psalms or portions of Psalms come so quickly to mind is related to how many of them I know (in whole or part) as songs.? A quick survey of the first fifty Psalms reveals that I am familiar with a sung version of at least part of twenty of them. Things that we sing are often much easier to recall so I am going to include a weekly post featuring one of the Psalms from that week as a song.

Singing the Psalms has a long history in both the Old and New Testaments, you can read more about it here.
