The Convention Season

One of the things that gets me through the midwinter school doldrums is the thought of the upcoming convention season! Traditionally I’ve gone to the Home Educators Association of Virginia (HEAV) Convention in June and gotten all of my continuing education there as well as doing most of my shopping! I have rather a soft spot for the HEAV Convention as I remember when the organization was formed and attended the convention as a mother’s helper in my teen years.

Every year I start planning my visit to the Convention in February, by taking a good look at where we are in school and starting the process of figuring out where we want to go in the next twelve months. In June I spend two days being filled to overflowing with ideas and encouragement and then spend the rest of the year processing it all!

This year I may well go into overload as I’m also going to be attending the Teach Them Diligently (TTD) Convention in Nashville and the 2:1 Convention in Washington DC! My brain and imagination may well explode!

I’m going to TTD partly because I can stay with relatives and visit them as well as go to the convention and partly because several of the speakers are bloggers that I follow. I don’t expect to do much shopping there- it’s much easier to haul stuff ten blocks to my house from the HEAV convention then across two states from Nashville!

2:1 is really more of a conference than a convention and again I’m planning to attend because particular people are speaking and I am hoping to learn from some older more experienced mothers and bloggers.

Stay tuned! I’ll be talking about all of these learning opportunities as well as how to plan for a conference or convention to get the most out of it!
