The Faithful Word

This morning I was printing out materials for our next six weeks of school (we use a year round six on/one off school schedule) and one of the things I was working on was preparing memory verse coloring sheets for the children.? We started memorizing the ABC Memory verses from ABeka last year and will be reviewing the ones we’ve learned, then going forward to finish the last 12 of them this year.

As I sat at the computer typing, I was amazed by how many of these verses I remember from my own early education more than 30 years ago. Although I don’t remember all of the references I do remember all of the verses!

How many, many times they have come to mind throughout my life. When I add in the verses that I learned as a small child from Scripture songs that were sung at church and at home, there is so much that lives in my heart. What a wonderful gift from my parents and teachers but also what a wonderful example of the faithfulness of God to his Word.

It is indeed true that He works by the Spirit through Scripture and I am excited to be continuing this Heritage of Faith for my own children. Already I see them starting to be guided by what they have memorized, singing “Be Ye Kind One to Another” or “Encourage One Another” while playing or when I have spoken to them about their attitudes. May they too find that the words they memorize now are still a guide and comfort in 30 years.

Thanks, I really enjoy the mental stimulation to write about different things on different days of the week. It keeps me examining what I/we do to see what I can write about…K

  3. I’m visiting from the antbed, and I love this! I have the best memories of learning scripture as a child. Well. Except for Eph 4:32, which my mom made my brother and me stop and recite when we fought. While holding hands. 🙂 But you’re right: it’s so comforting to carry verses on life’s journey! I will carry Thy Word in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee. 🙂
